There is a map of Karelia at http://afanas.ru/maps/kar-ind.html. Each of its pages can be calibrated using the rectangular grid (map datum Pulkovo 1942, longitude origin 33). The only problem is that the grid is not labeled…
Thanks for info.
The maps are almost too detailled!
I still need at least two waypoints from North-Karelia to calibrate the maps.
What is the difference between Pulkovo 1942 [1] and [2]?
Jouko
There is no difference, only different names (-)
Actually, only one waypoint is needed to graduate the grid. For example, the rectangular coordinates of Louhi railway station are 502905, 7331395 (provided that latitude origin=0deg, longitude origin=33deg, false easting=500000m, false northing=0m, map datum=Pulkovo-1942).
By the way, you can download 1:200000 maps containing some nodes of the deg/min grig, which can be easily used for calibration. The maps can be downloaded from http://www.velotourism.ru/gps_map/karelia/index.htm (files are large).
I cannot make any (visible) difference between Pulkovo 1942 (1) and (2), both of these settings are relevant for Russian maps.
Good luck!
Very good!
I have now detailled calibrated Karelia maps for my whole tour.
Oziexplorer works fine with Pulkovo 1942, but just found out that my Etrex-GPS does not have Pulkovo 1942 map datum!
What are the user parameters for it?
Also would be fine to have an overall map of North-Karelia in one piece with coarse calibration
Pulkovo-1942
Main Menu… Setup Menu… Navigation… Map Datum… User…
DX +28.0
DY –130.0
DZ –95.0
DA –108.0
DF +0.004808
Sorry…
this is for GPS-12.
For Etrex, “Units” instead of “Navigation”
![]()
And what lays in a folder “severnaja” to not suit?
ftp://ftp.gps-team.ru/atlas_Mikle_V/Karelia/severnaja/
OK, but how to enter the minus sign? It is only possible to enter numbers.
Or are DY, DZ, DA allways minus?
Yes Wolodya, “severnaja” and “sredniaja” folders both very good with *.map files for Ozi.
All of gratitude to author Maikl_V. It his works.
Problem solved, in first digit it is possible to put +/-

I just returned from the North-Karelia trip.
The maps were very accurate and the track pointer stayed all the time on road which we did drive.
The combination Garmin Etrex- HP Jornada 680- Oziexplorer worked really well. Total length of my trip was abt. 2500 km.
Thanks for everybody who helped in finding these maps!
